The Anatomy of a Check
Most people that write checks do not give much thought to what happens to those checks after they are written. They may also not consider what all goes into making a check that is secure and that it can be processed properly. One of the things that goes in to doing this actually takes place during the check printing process. In order for it to be recognized at the clearinghouse and to be processed properly, it needs to use a specific type of ink system, known as magnetic ink character recognition or MICR. This has been in place for decades and since 1958, it has been used in processing checks in order to maintain a level of security. The security has changed to a certain degree and additional measures have been taken in order to make sure that problems do not occur. An example of this is the E13B Font, which is now used in many countries throughout the world including Canada and the United States.
If you own or operate a business that regularly prints checks, you would want to make sure that you have these fonts available as well. In addition, you would want to ensure that you have the proper security measures so that everything goes smoothly at your place of business. This not only includes having the right types of printers that can do the printing necessary for secure checks, it also includes having the networking setup properly so that unauthorized individuals are not able to access the printers from their base computer.
