Romania 2004
The second congress organized once again by the Department-UNESCO Chair for the Study of Intercultural and Inter-religious Exchanges of Bucharest University, but this time in strong cooperation with the Institut Interdisciplinaire d’Ethique et des Droits de l’Homme, Fribourg University, and involving local institutions in Bucharest as well, took place, for the second time, in the Romanian capital in October 2004. The theme of this congress, Right to intercultural education and information, put the problem of methodology for intercultural dialogue and understanding at the top of the agenda. This main subject will probably be a permanent preoccupation for the network. The congress identified the fundamental prohibitions – existing in each culture or even religion – as essential for the methodological approach of intercultural dialogue and understanding. Given the title of this congress, it was really obvious to include in speeches and debates the problem of education towards intercultural dialogue and understanding: Of course, if this dialogue and understanding must take place, the best thing to do is to prepare the young generation for it.
