UNESCO Chair on Comparative Study of World Religions
The UNESCO Chair on Comparative Study of World Religions was established in Tashkent Islamic University between the 14th and 16th September of 2000 during the “World religions on the way of peace culture” international UNESCO congress in Tashkent. Director-General of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura took part in the opening ceremony of the UNESCO Chair. Prof. Dr. Ahadjon Ahmadjanovich Khasanov was appointed as the Head of the Chair. He is the actual Chairholder. The main purposes of the Chair are developing inter-religious and intercultural cooperation in the world as well as the exchange of experiences, enriching the knowledge of the youth about world religions and Islam, and training on comparative study of world religions. Initially, there were 5 employees; nowadays, there are 8 academics, in fact 1 professor, 1 docent and 1 administrative personnel. Currently, scientific researches on the topics of religion and tolerance and education in the frame of doctoral dissertations and Ph. D. dissertations are carried out by the members of the Chair. In addition, they are doing organizational works in the religious, scientific, spiritual programs. All members of the Chair are also becoming authors in writing books for teaching courses which give information about religion, in continuous education.
