Department-UNESCO Chair for the Study of Intercultural and Inter-religious Exchanges
The Department-UNESCO Chair for the Study of Intercultural and Inter-religious Exchanges of Bucharest University is the result of a common accord between UNESCO, Paris and the University of Bucharest itself. Within the University, the Department is autonomous, but it collaborates closely with the Faculty of sociology and social assistance. The director of the Department is Prof. Martin Hauser, full professor of Bucharest University (Romania) and professor of research at Fribourg University (Switzerland). The objective of the Department is to promote a better knowledge of oneself and of the other as well as the respect of any human person as such, in order to encourage the creation of more positives relations between the civilizations, societies, cultures, religions and organisations. The existence of the Department is justified by the need of having structures that make available the transfer of knowledge and that are ready to promote a bigger objectivity in the perception of the other and others in a country in full process of transition and adhesion to the European Union. The Department offers scientific and practical high level teaching and research programs that go in the very direction of the target of the Department. It proposes to interested people the possibility to improve their knowledge through two Master programs: Intercultural communication from the point of view of European integration and Intercultural management. The Department also organizes and takes part in research programs at international level. And the director of the Department as well as some of the professors are habilitated to direct doctoral theses.
